The "Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yintai" violin concerto, also called the "Butterfly Lover" concerto by music critics at home, has been reputed in China as a pure folk symphony for its melodic tunes, rich musical flair and high artistic presentation. To celebrate the 44th birthday of the violin concerto, Mr. He Zhanhao came to Hangzhou, where the butterfly lovers' romance took place, to give his first outdoor solo concert at the lawn of Xihu Tiandi on October 24. City leaders, district directors and numerous socialites attended the special concert. A Band from Brazil also performed on the scene. Mr. He Zhanhao is a native of Zhuji, Zhejiang Province. He co-wrote the "Butterfly Lover" violin concerto with Mr. Chen Gang in 1959 on based on the "Liang Zhu" folk story and the Yue Opera. He is currently a professor the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and Vice-Chairman of Shanghai Music Association.
