Shanghai Xintiandi New Year's Eve Countdown Party 2003 -- A Modern Chinese Carnival and Celebration
2002-12
On New Year's Eve 2002, Shanghai Xintiandi lived up to its billing as the best party in one of East Asia's most exciting cities. Celebrated on the heels of Shanghai's historic win of The 2010 World Expo in early December, the Xintiandi New Year's Eve Countdown Party closed the year on an electrifying note.
Live performances kicked off at 10pm and lasted until 1:00am into the New Year's first day at Taipingqiao Lake, in Xintiandi. Coco Lee, the famous Chinese-American pop queen, performed for the record crowds at Xintiandi.
Immediately after the New Year's countdown, a firework show excited the crowd.
Key government officials as well as Mr. Vincent H.S. Lo, Chairman of Shui On Group, representing the organizers of the Countdown Party, welcomed the first moment of 2003. The dignitaries were joined by thousands of Shanghai residents, tourists and revellers who helped ring in the New Year.
In Shanghai, Xintiandi has fast become the meeting grounds for entrepreneurs with vision and energy, and for those today who still dare to stretch their cultural horizons. The commercial, fashion and entertainment hub has become, in the Shui On Group's words, a place where "yesterday meets tomorrow in Shanghai today."
