Shui On Group, Principal Investor of Shanghai Xintiandi,Sponsored the 2002 Shanghai Master's Cup Tennis Contest

2002-11 A Master's Cup tennis tournament was held at Shanghai New International Exposition Center from 12 to 17 November 2002. As one of the main sponsors of this contest, the Shui On Group, the principal investor of Shanghai Xintiandi, witnessed the magnificent event along with 5000 tennis fans. The contest was the highest level of professional tennis competition ever held in China, marking another chapter in the city's spirit of athletic excellence.

The tournament hosted eight of the Master's Cup's top ranked players, all competing for US $3.7 million dollars in total prize money. Number one ranked singles player Lleyton Hewitt, veteran superstar and fan favorite Andre Agassi, and superstars Carlos Moya and Marrat Safin, all showed Shanghai tennis fans how exciting top ranked tennis can be. The six-day event played to a full house and left fans with plenty to cheer about. Li Ruihuan, Chairman of CPPCC, attended the Closing Ceremony and awarded a souvenir cup to tournament champion, Lleyton Hewitt from Australia. Chen Liangyu, Mayor of Shanghai Municipality and Honorary president of the tournament's organizing committee, delivered a speech in the closing ceremony.
